A young orphan escapes the realities of her life by fantasizing about, and then entering, a fairy tale world.

This fairy tale tells about famous Ukrainian warriors Cossacks, about Paradise and hell, Christmas and evil forces. The Devil makes an agreement with St. Peter. If he can capture the best Cossack warrior and hold him until Christmas night, he will be able to wipe all the Cossacks off the map. The script for the movie is based on Sashko Lirnyk's story "About an old Cossack, a Christmas devil, four horns and a Cossacks".

A young girl becomes lost in a department store during the Christmas shopping rush. The frightened child is comforted by a department store Santa Claus who tells her a tale of storybook characters brought to life - of Tommy Tucker's love for the lovely Jane Piper and the cold-hearted villainy of evil Silas Barnaby. Through the girl's dreams, the viewer is transported to Toyland. Based on the classic Broadway operetta by Victor Herbert and Glen MacDonough, this was its second live television special production, with some new cast members and some returning.

Año 1944, tras la victoria de Franco. La niña Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) y su madre, Carmen (Ariadna Gil), convaleciente a causa de un avanzado estado de gestación, se trasladan hasta un pequeño pueblo en el que se encuentra destacado el nuevo marido de ésta, Vidal (Sergi López), un cruel capitán del ejército franquista por el que la niña no siente ningún afecto. La misión de Vidal es acabar con los últimos vestigios de la resistencia republicana que permanecen escondidos en los montes de la zona.
