Trilogy for One Man
The most legendary 'sequence' ever achieved by a mountaineer: on 12 and 13 March 1987, in 40 hours, 26-year-old Christophe Profit managed to climb three of the highest north faces in the Alps, in winter: Grandes Jorasses, Eiger, and Matterhorn. But over and above this 'coverage' of the feat, we discover the wings, the story behind the project, the peaks and troughs of the preparations for it, and the personality of the man behind the climbs, a dancer on sheer rock faces, focusing all the energy and reflexes of life itself in his fingertips.
Pond Hockey
The pond. This is where hockey was born-under the open sky-where the ice is gritty and so is the play. For generations, Northlanders have grown up on outdoor ice. But, there are new climate- controlled arenas in every town, and that's where the kids go to practice year-round now.
Practicing
Filmmaker Jeanne van der Horst recorded the students’ sessions as they navigated the social distances mediated by McBride’s artwork. Van der Horst turned the recordings into a film titled Practicing which premiered in February and will be shown through August 28, 2022, at De Pont. Practicing is screened adjacent to Dan Graham’s Pavilion, completed for the De Pont museum in 2014. Graham’s work is an especially important touchstone for McBride, and the current installation has provided a unique opportunity to visualize the links between their artistic concerns and to meditate on his recent passing.
