Sinopsis
April Burns (Katie Holmes) es una joven moderna de 21 años que se ha emancipado del nido familiar burgués, y se ha instalado en un ruinoso apartamento del Lower Side en Nueva York compartiéndolo con su novio de color Bobby. Amanece el día de acción de gracias y April ha invitado a su familia a cenar pavo en su nueva casa y de paso presentarles a Bobby. April nunca se ha llevado especialmente bien con su madre, Joy, pero Bobby la convence para que la invite por la festividad de Thanksgiving -Acción de Gracias-.
