Sinopsis
Despertar is the visual narration of a woman's dream. Her body, imaginary landscape, undergoes symbolic metamorphoses as her dream goes on, calling up the origins of life and the elements that compose it. Her inner awakening, led by her instincts, appears as a struggle between opposed forces, those of destruction and those of rebirth.
The Pollard family is calmly discussing their impending death by atom bomb when Mrs. Pollard recounts a dream in which she sensually bathes herself in the “Tears of Neglected Children”.

A woman sits alone on a chair at a table in a room on one of the top floors of an asylum. Bright spot lights dot the night, sometimes shining on her window. She sharpens pencils and writes on a page in a copy book. The pencil point often breaks under her fingers' force. She places broken points outside the window on the sill. A satanic figure is somewhere nearby, animated but of straw or clay, not flesh. El trabajo, que mezcla la España folclórica con el fetichismo y los alienígenas, fue desaprobado finalmente para su utilización como material educativo y acabó siendo emitido en La 2 de TVE, en el programa Versión Española, junto al largometraje 'Bilbao', de Bigas Luna.
