Computer Animation Experience
Entertainment and innovation collide in this stunning and eclectic collection of computer-animated short films, which presents 21 award-winning masterworks that burst forth with a bounty of humor, romance, drama and beautiful imagery. Highlights include the thrilling "Devil's Mine Ride," Todd Rundgren's gorgeous music video "Theology," the hilarious "Gas Planet" and the abstract colors and textures of "Primordial Dance."
When Black Birds Fly
Heaven is a beautiful, clean suburban paradise as long as they follow one simple rule: DO NOT communicate with "The Evil One" that dwells on the other side of a giant wall that circles the town. One day after chasing one he discovers a talking kitten with a broken leg a small child crawls through a hole in the wall and meets the Evil One, who attempts to teach him the forbidden knowledge that was previously hidden from them all.
Recluse
"Recluse" is a short film I wanted to make as challenge to see if I could tell an effective story without dialogue and complete it in a 30 day time span. It ended up stretching out over the course of many months, mostly because I was getting "When Black Birds Fly" ready for release, but I'm pretty happy with the results! This is also the first film I've animated in 4K. Featuring cameo vocals by Emily Youcis & Rachael Deacon, and additional sound design by M dot Strange!
Two Space
Two Space systematically explores symmetries used by Islamic artists to create abstract temple decorations. The two dimensional patterns, like the tile patterns of Islamic temples, are generated by performing a set of symmetry operations (translations, rotations, and reflections) upon a basic figure or tile. Two Space consists of twelve such patterns produced using each of nine different animating figures (12 x 9 = 108 total). Rendered in stark black and white, the patterns produce optical illusions of figure-ground reversal and afterimages of color. Gamelan music from the classical tradition of Java adds to the mesmerizing effect.
Cyberscape: A Computer Animation Vision
Computer visionary Beny Tchaicovsky presents a new dimension in digital imagery in this fast-forward trip through human existence. The oddities of our species -- from primitive to modern man -- are on full display in this surreal history. Accompanied by Peter Bernstein's soundtrack, the video zips from the Garden of Eden to quantum mechanics with detours to explore the human obsessions of time, money and the opposite sex.
