Un reportero fotográfico se ve obligado a permanecer en reposo con una pierna escayolada. After his wife, Sheela goes missing, Ravi Patwardhan files a missing persons report. When her body is discovered in a pond, police Detective Tejpal Randhawa investigates the murder and tries to narrow down the suspects, which include her husband and her father. Despite finding no clear motive or evidence, Randhawa slowly begins to piece together the mystery and draws closer to uncovering the identity of Sheela's killer.

The film features Fernandez himself as a character named Rogellio Torres. The lion's share of the footage, however, is devoted to the romance between Esperanza, granddaughter of a common laborer, and Jose Luis Castro, the firebrand son of a landowner. Joining a revolutionary movements, Castro is disowned by his father, but Esperanza remains loyally by his side. Later on, Castro's father is killed by outlaws; in seeking vengeance, he sacrifices his own life, while Esperanza carries on his revolutionary work with their young son in tow.

The story begins in a small rural village in Ladimirevci, Eastern Croatia in 1943, where a land owner Sima is helping the Partisan Movement and the official Ustasha regime in order to save the life of his son Beneš, who is enlisted in the German army. Sima doesn't want to let his son fight for the wrong side any more, and doesn't want to give him to the Partisans either, so he hides him in his attic for the time being. The story is interwoven with episodes of Sima trying to muster a beautiful stallion - Sokol - who only answers to his son Beneš and clearly doesn't like his old man.
