A God-fearing young man refuses to sell his, rich in ore, pasture to a mining company. So an agent of this company creates a scam of a so-called miracle in order to convince him.

A cynical young man, Giorgos, who believes that in this life you need to steer clear of principles and attachments, clashes with his father, captain Manolis and abandons the management of the family’s shipyard. Thomas is a good but low intelligence man. He is in love with Urania, a widow, whose stingy husband Sotiris is over a year dead, as the ship he was sailing in, sunk. When Sotiris appears, explaining that he was hiding so as to get the life insurance money. Urania, who already has a love affair, convinces Thomas to murder him, pretending she is in love with him. Thomas indeed tries unsuccessfully. Everything is revealed when Sotiris discovers that the insurance money have been stolen and appears screaming during his memorial service. A trial ensues, where Thomas admits that he is not only an imbecile but 'an imbecile and a half'.

It is a love story between a prostitute and an artist. It was one of the first German films to break several taboos: nudity, suicide and euthanasia. In the Germany of the '50s, this caused a lot of negative reactions by the politicians and the Roman Catholic Church. The opposition reached the degree of banning the film and scandalizing it which paradoxically made it one of the landmarks in the history of film.

En 1975, Nicolas Philibert, un joven ayudante de dirección, participó en la película de René Allio "Yo, Pierre Riviére, habiendo matado a mi madre, mi hermana y mi hermano...", inspirada en un crimen que tuvo lugar en Normandía hace 140 años. Esta película debía su singularidad al hecho de que los miembros del equipo artístico eran los propios granjeros de la región. Treinta años después de rodar aquella película, Nicolas Philibert decide reencontrarse con los actores. Algunos ya no viven y otros han emigrado, pero en un absoluto proceso de investigación, Philibert intenta recuperarlos para que nos hablen sobre su vida y nos cuenten cómo les ha afectado su participación en aquella película.
