El teatro es algo maravilloso, pero detrás hay mucho esfuerzo y muchas cosas que se le escapan al gran público, que sólo asiste a las representaciones sin saber lo que se esconde detrás del telón. Como en la vida misma, en las bambalinas hay muchos problemas, ya que no hay que olvidar que el teatro es algo hecho por personas, y que éstas son imperfectas y tienen sus historias personales, las cuales afectan a la forma en la que trabajan. Esto es lo que pasa en la película, ya que para empezar, la directora es una neurótica, lo que no le ayuda nada a la hora de dirigir a sus actores, y más si la protagonista se enfada con ella mientras que uno de los actores es tan mayor que es incapaz de memorizar sus frases. Pero lo peor es que los desastres no acaban aquí, y el equipo técnico es igual o peor que la directora y los actores. ¿Podrán hacer la obra y presentarla al público?

The Widows' Clan is a play written by Ginette Garcin, premiered in 1989 at the Théâtre Municipal de Charenton and repeated in 1990 at the Théâtre Fontaine. Jacky and Marcelle, already widows for several years, console Rose whose husband has just died in the toilet: he has been flushed on the head.
