Sinopsis
La verdadera historia del famoso líder mormón Brigham Young y su batalla para el transporte de su pueblo a través de las montañas Rocosas a establecerse en Salt Lake City. La trama se centra en dos personajes, Jonathan Kent y Zina Webb y las dificultades que tienen que enfrentar en el camino.
Una osa que intenta alcanzar un panal de miel con el que saciar su glotonería, muere aplastada por un alud, dejando huérfano y desamparado a su osezno Youk, el cual se ve obligado a sobrevivir en un medio muy hostil. Afortunadamente, Youk se encuentra con Kaar, un oso Kodiak adulto que decide adoptarlo y protegerlo. De todos los peligros que los amenazan, el peor lo constituyen los tramperos. Dos de ellos, Bill y Tom, mantendrán una lucha singular con Kaar; sobre todo Tom, que se enfrenta varias veces con el gran oso y se plantea su caza como una cuestión de orgullo personal.
