Biopic del gran cantante de música country Johnny Cash. La historia comienza en Arkansas, en la época de la Gran Depresión. John R. Farm Aid was founded in 1985 by Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young to raise public awareness about the plight of the American family farmer and to provide assistance to those families whose livelihood depends on agriculture. In the past 16 years, Farm Aid has raised over $23 million. This concert captures the spirit of a historic 2001 event. Performed on September 29, 2001, in Noblesville, Indiana, this sold-out Farm Aid concert featured a star-studded lineup including founder Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Farm Aid's newest board member, Dave Matthews. Also performing are Arlo Guthrie, the Doobie Brothers, and Martina McBride, all of whom gave memorable performances to demonstrate their commitment to America's family farmer.

Country singer Maury Dann lives life in the fast lane, counting on his rakish charm and raw talent to excuse his reckless behavior. A Kentucky-born maiden realizes her dream of becoming a country music star. However, she discovers that her single-minded determination has caused her to lose things far more precious than fame or money when she gets involved with a group of corrupt music executives.

Following a passion for country music, Ralph leaves his father’s sheep farm in a remote Australian town, armed with a guitar and a plane ticket to Nashville, Tennessee. He hopes to hitchhike to Sydney Airport where his take-off into a successful country/western singing career will hopefully begin. However, fate and his naivety find him hitchhiking with a psychotic drug thief named Boyd, and Boyd's mesmerising girlfriend, Patsy. The plot then splits into a series of parallels, flash forwards and flashbacks. One depicts Ralph’s imprisonment after being framed for drug trafficking. The other follows the dramatic ascent of his career to hype status and the pairing between the dynamic Patsy and himself.

The performances come from a 2004 Willie Nelson Special aired on cable television; guests include many well-known musicians.
