Berlín, octubre de 1989. Unos días antes de la caída del Muro, la madre de Alex, una mujer orgullosa de sus ideas comunistas, entra en coma. Cuando despierta ocho meses después, su hijo hará lo posible y lo imposible para que no se entere de que está viviendo en una Alemania reunificada y capitalista. Su objetivo es convertir el apartamento familiar en una isla anclada en el pasado, una especie de museo del socialismo en el que su madre viva cómodamente creyendo que nada ha cambiado.

Dave Kujan (Chazz Palminteri), un agente especial que trabaja para el servicio de aduanas de EEUU, está investigando las consecuencias de un incendio a bordo de un barco en el puerto de San Pedro de Los Ángeles, con un balance de 27 víctimas mortales -todas aparentemente asesinadas-. La única fuente de información de Kujan es Roger Kint (Kevin Spacey), un estafador lisiado que sobrevivió al incendio. En comisaría, Kint cuenta que todo comenzó 6 semanas atrás en Nueva York, cuando 5 delincuentes, 5 "sospechosos habituales", fueron detenidos para una rueda de reconocimiento referente al robo de un camión de armas...

On February 20, 1953, the Nordwestdeutsche Rundfunk broadcast the first cooking show of German post-war television. Clemens Carl Hahn became the TV chef Clemens Wilmenrod. When the "request in ten minutes to table" on the screens flickered, went for the presenter of the show a dream come true: He had designed the cooking show not only the first TV format that was aimed at women, but also a new self invented.

Vicky, an ambitious young bombshell living in Hollywood, gets hired to be the "Toy" of her favorite rock star, Stu, who is in desperate need of inspiration. Starry-eyed and reckless, she enters a world of fantasy fuelled by addiction and an abusive thirst for fame.

Meier, a paperhanger in East Berlin, inherits from his father in West Berlin. With this money he wants to fulfil himself the dream of his life: a journey around the world. He buys a forged West German passport and pretends to go on a trip to Bulgaria while he really is off to see the free world. When he wants to return to East Berlin he finds himself in an unbelievable predicament and his double life begins. He can't keep away from his East German friends. As with all the best comedies, the action builds up to an eventual crisis. It's a light comedy, which won several national Film Academy Awards. The film is very political, with lots of political jokes/innuendos which only Germans will understand. One is left feeling what a total obscenity that stupid Wall was, dividing one people for 30 years (1-2 Generations) simply by the coincidence on where you just happen to be in the early morning on the 13th August 1961.

Main character of this movie is Rene Rupnik, a former math teacher. He is forty years old and lives together with his mother in a desolate block of flats. Ever since his early youth women with big breasts have fascinated him, because they symbolise a kind of earth mother to him. He has never had an especially close relationship with his own mother; she was too 'bony' for him. Object of Rene's fantasy is the actress Senta Berger, to him everything a woman should be. Standing by the blackboard and explaining the mathematical laws of sine and cosine ('sinus' is bosom in Latin), Rene sings the praises of the female curves and those of Santa Berger in particular. Filmmaker Ulrich Seidl let the former teacher speak freely about his obsessions and desires, intercutting his monologues with scenes from the protagonist's day-to-day life.
