Tras sufrir una caída recogiendo muérdago, Panoramix decide que ha llegado la hora de asegurar el futuro del pueblo. Acompañado por Asterix y Obelix, emprende la búsqueda de un talentoso druida al que quiere transmitirle el secreto de la poción mágica.

En el último verano del siglo XX los seres humanos descubrieron que no son los únicos que gobiernan el planeta Tierra, pues aparecen enormes criaturas conocidas como “kaiju” y el ser definitivo que los destruye a todos: Godzilla. Debido a la batalla contra los monstruos que duró más de medio siglo, los humanos han experimentado una derrota tras otra hasta que, finalmente, deciden escapar de la Tierra. En el año 2048, solo aquellos seleccionados por la IA que controla el gobierno central pudieron subir a la nave emigrante intersideral Aratrum para dirigirse a Tau Ceti e, un planeta a 11,9 años luz del nuestro. Sin embargo, las diferencias en las condiciones ambientales son mucho peores de lo previsto y el nuevo mundo resulta ser uno imposible de habitar.

En un futuro los Kaijus lograrán conquistar la Tierra. La humanidad deberá dejar el que fuera su hogar durante mucho tiempo para mudarse a otro planeta que por desgracia no podrá albergarlos. Su única esperanza de sobrevivir es volver a la Tierra y vencer a Godzilla. Sin embargo, tras su regreso habrán pasado 20.000 años de dominio Kaiju, por lo que la humanidad deberá enfrentarse a lo peor.
