España, años 30. Fabián Insausti (Juan Luis Galiardo), que se ha hecho un rico hacendado en Venezuela, regresa a su ciudad natal a causa de la muerte de su madre. Un día decide visitar un viejo caserón convertido en un prostíbulo de lujo, y allí se enamora perdidamente de Ana (Maribel Verdú), una joven prostituta.
