Emilie Natacha Lesclaux (Bordeaux) is a French film producer and political scientist based in Brazil. She lives in Recife since 2002, where she married the filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. He has produced internationally awarded films such as Aquarius, O Som ao Redor and Bacurau.

Con el corazón roto, Kai llega de vacaciones desde Taiwán a Recife. Hace calor y el aire acondicionado del hotel donde se hospeda no funciona. Kai conoce a Fu Ang, dueño de un negocio de paraguas. Fu Ang le presta una llave inglesa con la que podría arreglar el desperfecto técnico. Fu Ang también podría convertirse en su amigo, pero la temporada de lluvias no llega y tanto la tienda de paraguas como su dueño desaparecen subrepticiamente. Mientras trata de dar con él por distintos lugares de Recife, Kai descubre la historia de Xiaoxin y un grupo de trabajadores chinos que vivieron en el rascacielos más elegante de la ciudad. Kai se encuentra extrañamente reflejada en la historia de Xiaoxin.
