Los humanos no tienen mucho donde escoger para escaparse de su aniquilación, así que deciden salvar a los habitantes de la isla donde cayó "Macross", la nave alienígena, usándola para abandonar el planeta, dirigiéndose más allá de los límites del Sistema Solar. Siendo los Zentraedi los nuevos amos del planeta, sólo el tiempo dirá si alguna vez podrán volver a la Tierra y vencerles.
