La película abre con un largo flashback sobre unos sucesos que ocurren en un asilo de la ciudad de Davenport en Iowa regentado por monjas. Allí son brutalmente asesinadas la madre superiora y dos mujeres y dos novicias desaparecen y nunca se vuelve a saber de ellas. En la actualidad, Lei (Laura Morante) es una mujer de origen italiano que ha pasado 15 años recuperándose en un sanatorio mental tras el suicido de su marido. Lee llega a Davenport donde prepara abrir un restaurante de comida italiana en la vieja mansión de Snakes Hall, el viejo asilo, que ahora está abandonado. Cuando entran en él, comienzan a pasar cosas extrañas…

Screenplay
Iqbal is about an Asian boy who gets sold by his father to a small carpentry production company in which child labour is supported. His "master" is a cruel man, imposing a ridiculous behaviour catalogue with strict charges. The children, about 5-10 years of age, have to work all day and they´re not allowed to go to toilet while at work, let alone visit their parents. Iqbal soon realizes that this is a massive injustice, especially when a member of the (unindentified) country´s Communist and Anti-child labour party takes photographs of the children.
