Zhou Zenong (Hu Ge) es un gángster que, recién salido de la cárcel, se convierte en fugitivo tras una reunión de bandas que acaba con la muerte de un policía. Tratando de esconderse mientras se recupera de sus heridas, Zhou se encuentra con Liu Aiai (Gwei Lun Mei), una prostituta que puede haber sido enviada para ayudarle, o bien para entregarlo al capitán de la policía (Liao Fan) a cambio de una cuantiosa suma. Perseguido por las bandas y por un dispositivo policial que parece abarcar toda la ciudad, Zhou deberá enfrentarse a los límites de lo que está dispuesto a sacrificar tanto por esta extraña como para la familia que dejó atrás.

In a small northern Chinese city in 1997, Judge Tian privately struggles with the loss of his daughter, killed by a stolen car in a hit-and-run accident. On the bench he encounters Qiuwu, a mechanic accused of stealing two cars. Perhaps influenced by his emotional state, the outwardly impassive judge imposes an almost-obsolete criminal law on Qiuwu that sentences him to death for his crime. Desperate to mitigate his sentence, Qiuwu agrees to donate his kidney to a rich businessman dying of a terminal illness, hoping at the very least that his impoverished family may profit from his demise.
The story revolves around the work and life of traffic police Du Jun with his wife, sister, mother, and ex-girlfriend, as well as the sudden changes that occurred within one day.
