Tomek lives only with his mother, because his father, Alek, left for the USA to earn some money. Unexpectedly, the man arrives home with a bunch of presents but no explanation as to why he has come back. Everybody seems happy but something is in the air.

Strzeminski se niega a comprometer su arte a las doctrinas del realismo social cuando en 1948, Stalin invade Polonia. Así, es perseguido, expulsado de la universidad y borrado de los muros de los museos. But there is no escape - he must kill or he will be killed. What's more, he falls in love with a beautiful Polish girl...

A Pole who spent time in an internment camp during the war on the Swiss-German border, visits the site many years later and recalls these days. He meets with other Poles confined in the same camp, including several women, in whose he had romantic interests.
