Arcade Fire headline the 2022 AT&T Block Party

It’s time to Canuck n’ Roll as we celebrate Canada Day with a trip through the best of the BBC’s music archives, exploring some of that great nation’s finest music stars.

A ceremony for the Class of 2020 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony takes place on November 7, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio, and airs on HBO. The class of inductees includes The Notorious B.I.G., The Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails, T. Rex and Depeche Mode as well as Irving Azoff and Jon Landau who both received the Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement.

¿Qué pasaría si alguien te diera una caja con un botón que, si lo aprietas, haría aparecer un millón de dólares pero, simultáneamente, se llevaría la vida de alguien que no conoces? Estamos en el año 1976. Norma Lewis es profesora en un instituto privado y su marido, Arthur, es ingeniero de la NASA. The Arcade Fire’s enigmatic Miroir Noir opens with its most authentic moment: the band faces each other in the middle of an audience and gingerly eases into “Wake Up”. The fans bunch awkwardly around them as Win Butler intones into a ghetto-taped megaphone. Renowned for their sojourns into the crowd, this particular gimmick is usually configured as a populist transgression of the supposed boundary between performer and audience. But this footage shows indie’s high priests seeming uneasy among the faithful, who appear to share the feeling. No species of direct connection is sought. Even in such close quarters, the act of leveling can only be achieved through the conduit of the music.
