Un cineasta norteamericano de origen griego llamado A está rodando una película sobre sus padres, Eleni y Spiros. Una y otra vez, la historia de amor de estos dos inmigrantes griegos se ve condicionada por los acontecimientos históricos: durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945) tienen que separarse porque Spiros debe emigrar a Estados Unidos; al estallar la guerra civil en Grecia, Eleni emigra a la Unión Soviética por motivos políticos; A se ve obligado a huir a Canadá para evitar la guerra de Vietnam. La caída del muro de Berlín (1989) marca el comienzo de una nueva época en su vida.

Corre el año 1566. Tras huir de la ocupación veneciana de Creta, su isla natal, el pintor Domenicos Theotocopoulos (Nick Ashton) llega a Venecia y comienza a trabajar en el estudio de Tiziano, donde pronto destaca sobre el resto de los artistas. Allí es descubierto por el Niño de Guevara (Juan Diego Botto), un sacerdote español con el que mantiene una extraña relación. Años después, el pintor se traslada a Madrid y se enamora de Jerónima de las Cuevas (Laia Marull), hija de un noble militar, con la que tiene un hijo. La pareja se establece en Toledo, ciudad en la que El Greco triunfa como artista. Su privilegiada posición le lleva a rodearse de las más altas esferas políticas y religiosas, incluyendo a su antiguo amigo Niño de Guevara, ahora convertido en el Gran Inquisidor. Aunque el profundo rechazo que el artista siente por la Inquisición pronto le llevará a enfrentarse abiertamente con él.

A gifted electrician, Michalis Karamanos works for Greek Telecommunications Organization and it seems that he is the only one who hasn't been completely absorbed by the corrupt and all-devouring system. Acting as a member of the revolutionary organization Constitutional Struggle, which is fighting against the unpopular policy of the government, he connects the computer of the director of OTE to an explosive device. He threatens to destroy the telecommunications of the country if he is not allowed to broadcast on television his revolutionary message during the broadcast of an important football game. The Authorities, thinking that he has gone crazy, try to bring him around using his old friends from the army, whom they pick up one by one as intermediaries. This is a situation comedy with excellent, mature plot development, plenty of suspense as well as masterful criticism of sociopolitical reality.
