Denis Klebleev
Historia
Denis Klebleev (1981) is a filmmaker and cinematographer from Moscow. In 2012 he graduated from Marina Razbezhkina’s School of Documentary Film. His diploma film 31st Haul (2012) won the Best Feature Film prize at Artdocfest (Moscow) and was selected for several film festivals (including Hot Docs and Cinema du Reel). His second documentary Strange Particles (2015) premiered at Cinema Du Reel (Paris), where it received two prizes. It was later screened at various well-known international festivals (Hot Docs, Dok-Leizpig, Locarno, Viennale, etc.). In 2015 he was a member of the jury for the short film competition at the Locarno Film Festival. The world premiere of his new documentary King Lear took place at Hot Docs (Toronto) in April 2018.

The Osipovs are a very ordinary family from Ulyanovsk. Father, mother and son. They are no different from thousands and thousands of other families, except that they are happy. They love each other. The sudden illness of the son drives through them with an asphalt roller. Parents are ready for anything, they lose their home, and sometimes their human form, trying to save their child. At some point, even the mother breaks down. But not the father. The most ordinary person. A provincial carpenter.

In late nineteenth-century Yakutia, Habji and his wife Keremes have just buried their second child, and are preparing for a harsh winter of famine. Instead of giving them the help he promised, the local prince foists a Russian convict, Kostya, on the family, who the law decrees must live in the same house as them. They initially struggle to find a common language, and the convict soon decides that he will be the master of the house from now on.

The story is dedicated to the experience of growing up, emancipation and finding their own identity in life and in art. The film raises questions about the nature of the student-teacher relationship, which inevitably involves submission and conflict, and the nature of the director and hero relationship, which is based on love and a little manipulation.
