Jonathan Pride is a mild-mannered dance instructor in 1820 Boston. En route to visit relatives, Jonathan is shanghaied by a band of zany pirates and forced to work as a galley boy. When the pirate vessel arrives at the port of Las Palomas, Jonathan, clad in buccaneer's garb, makes his escape. Everyone in Las Palomas, including Governor Alcalde (Frank Morgan) and fetching senorita Serafina (Steffi Duna), assumes that Jonathan is the pirate chieftain, leading to a series of typical comic-opera complications.

In 1935, former Hollywood silent film star Ramón Novarro (of Durango, Mexico) joined the ranks of adventurous Spanish-speaking, risk-taking producers by writing, directing and producing through his R.N.S. Productions this romantic comedy set in Los Angeles. The film, shot in collaboration with members of his extensive family—brothers Antonio (assistant director) and Eduardo Samaniego (art director), sister Carmen Samaniego (actress), and uncle Ramón Guerrero (actor)—centers on the romance of the rich Rosalía (Luana Alcañiz) and the poor Alberto, a swimmer played by real life Argentinian swimmer José A. Caraballo, who, like the character in the film, had competed in the 1932 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.

A war between Bolivia and Paraguay is the setting for the stories of flyers involved with both sides in the conflict.

Versión española de "The Big House", anterior a la implantación del doblaje: se rodaba una película en inglés con actores angloparlantes y otra en español con actores hispanoparlantes. El argumento, copiado de "The Big House", es: Kent Marlowe, bajo la influencia del alcohol, atropella y mata accidentalmente a dos personas. Recibe cargos criminales y termina en una prisión cumpliendo 10 años al lado de criminales de diverso pasado; Butch Smith es un avezado criminal, con varias reincidencias, y es quien manda en el bloque de celdas. John Morgan (un individuo agradable que comparte la celda con Kent) es un falsificador que aparentemente se ha regenerado y desea rehacer su vida. Pero no es lo que otros desean para Morgan. Kent es forzado a plantar una navaja entre las pertenencias de John y éste pierde la posibilidad de salir de prisión bajo palabra. Desesperado, John huye de prisión.
