It was a fateful coincidence that in 2014, just when the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam was staging an exhibition of Crimean artworks, Russia annexed the region. So now the question arises of who should the artworks be returned to? To the museums in Crimea who had been so kind as to loan them out? Or to Ukraine, perhaps, the country Crimea belonged to before the annexation? What should the museum’s director Wim Hupperetz do?

En abril de 2013, el Rijksmuseum de Ámsterdam, de una categoría similar al Louvre, el Prado y el Hermitage y principal atracción turística de Holanda, reabrió sus puertas tras casi diez años de una reforma carísima y muy polémica. Durante este período en el que las obras maestras de Vermeer, Rembrandt y otros artistas holandeses desaparecieron de la vista del público, el director Oeke Hoogendijk documentó este complejísimo proceso. La película retrata los problemas logísticos y burocráticos del proyecto de reforma firmado por los arquitectos españoles Antonio Cruz y Antonio Ortiz y se convierte en un estudio sociológico del impacto de una obra arquitectónica en la sociedad.

At the end of 2003 the main building of the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum has closed, in the words of managing director Ronald de Leeuw, becoming 'the most conceivable art museum'. The Spanish architects Cruz and Ortiz signed for the big design; in 2008 the modernized museum would open with a pioneering museum concept. Moviemaker Hoogendijk followed the first four years of what is called the biggest Dutch cultural operation in history.
