La relación entre Francis y Katrina no pasa por su mejor momento, debido a su incapacidad para tener hijos. Las cosas empeoran cuando él es incapaz de defender a su mujer en un atraco. El posterior intento de Francis por remediar la situación acaba con la muerte del ladrón. Poco después, Katrina anuncia que está embarazada, y el hombre empieza a detectar inquietantes señales que conectan ambos hechos.

Geneva, Switzerland 1935. The first European Basketball Championship is about to take place. Basketball is still an unknown sport in Europe, and the national teams are meeting for the first time. Each wants the honour of being the first champion. Meanwhile in Latvia, coach Baumanis is convinced that he can assemble a team and take it to Geneva. He quickly learns however, that triumph and defeat are also part of the game. Coach Baumanis faces many difficulties, as well as unexpected help from those closest to him.
The USSR, 1946. The main character, Mikhail Krasnitsky, travels to different cities across the country. When he arrives, he commits cold-blooded murders, for reasons that are not yet evident. The Secret Service manages to connect all of these crimes and figure out that all of the victims were former death camp inmates. However, the murderer’s motive still remains unclear.
