El Profesor Henry Harrington (Maurice Denham), un investigador de sectas que venía denunciando las actividades demonológicas del Dr. Karswell, muere en un extraño accidente. El psicólogo norteamericano John Holden (Dana Andrews), que se encuentra de visita en Londres, es bastante escéptico respecto a cuestiones tales como la brujería y las sectas satánicas, a pesar de lo cual investigará el caso, con la colaboración de la sobrina del difunto.
