Christian, well-off of a certain age, lives alone in a house between the moors and the sea on the Sardinian coast, she loved dearly by Ghiana, a peasant married. The arrival in the farmhouse near the young and charming Sara, who takes care of the mentally ill husband, upsets the life of Christian and his relationship with Ghiana, arousing in him love and anguish.

Separated by fate, the man had an accident on his way back to his wife. For years, absence of her husband has made the woman suffer. She takes care of her child while waiting for her husband’s return.

Dame Eleonora Duse plays a poor woman who, incapable of raising and feed him, leaves her illegitimate son with foster parents. Before she leaves her boy, the woman gives to the child an amulet in order to protect him. The amulet will be the key to put him in connection with his old mother when the boy grows up.
