Ditte is born out of wedlock and lives as a young girl with her old beloved grandmother. As an illegitimate child she is teased in school and more than anything in the world she wants a father. When steady - utterly reliable - herring dealer Lars Petter shows up and tells her that he is marrying Ditte's mother, the little girl is very happy. Now Ditte must take care of three new sisters and brothers but gets nothing but complaints from her ungrateful, selfish mother. But the little girl finds consolation and support in both her sisters and brothers and Lars Petter.

Everyman

In 1911 the German poet Hugo von Hofmansthal wrote a new version of the medieval morality play Everyman, and this was staged in Danish translation at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in 1915. At the time, it was radical example of symbolist abstraction. Its success inspired a film version, Enhver [Everyman], directed by Vilhelm Glückstadt for Filmfabrikken Danmark. The film, however, was set in a modern-day environment. It depict the moral choice confronting its protagonist at struggle because two attendant spirits, one good and one bad. The protagonist is tempted by dark figure of evil and succumbs, rejecting God and leading a life of iniquity, but he is then haunted by guilty visions until he finally dies, asking God for forgiveness at the last moment.

A baby’s christening turns into a nightmare when Baron and Baroness von Wilhjelm’s young son is kidnapped by travellers. Mother and son are reunited after 20 years apart, when the band of travellers sets up camp at the very same estate where the Baroness resides. Raphael, as he is now named, has become a handsome young man, whom women swoon over. He is caught in the middle of an intense battle for his affections between the Count’s daughter Inger and the traveller girl Zelma. The story of Den Fremmede, the earliest of the surviving Gliickstadt films, revolves around Poul Wang (Emanuel Gregers), a confidential clerk for a trading company. One evening he goes to a nightclub with some friends while his wife, Clara (Gudrun Houlberg), waits at home. He cannot pay his bill and, in his drunkenness, asks that it be sent to his home the next morning. When the bill arrives, he still cannot pay it; apparently it is for a rather large sum. Poul visits Frandsen, a moneylender, and borrows the money to pay the bill. Later, Frandsen goes to Poul's office to collect and, when it still cannot be paid....
