La película es la continuacion de la serie “Kurosagi”, que contó con 11 capitulos. Kurosaki es un chico que perdió a toda su familia por culpa de un Shirosagi, dando comienzo a su solitario camino hacia la venganza, convirtiéndose en el estafador de estafadores, un Kurosagi.

Basada en un hecho real. Hachiko es un perro de raza akita que es adquirido por el profesor Ueno, docente en la Facultad de Ingeniería Agrónoma de la Universidad de Tokio. Pero Joe es un rebelde, y no le hace caso, siguiendo metiéndose en líos a cual mas peligroso, hasta que es encerrado en un reformatorio y ahí conoce a Toru Rikiishi, ex-boxeador profesional recluido, que le hará cambiar de parecer. La película se estrenó en el cine justo antes de estrenarse "Ashita no Joe-2", contando con una calidad de imagen remasterizada respecto a la serie original, una nueva OST, dos nuevos temas de Apertura y Cierre y siendo re-doblada de nuevo, contando en el elenco con algunos nuevos actores de voz debido al tiempo transcurrido respecto al anime original, sirviendo así de prologo recordatorio e introductorio a la segunda serie.

The success of Truck Yaro (1975-1979) initiated a whole load of movies that put "Yaro" in their title, including this semi-bonkers sports comedy/drama. Sonny Chiba's brother Jiro Chiba stars as a Rugby player whose team must find a way to beat the opponent. It's a standard storyline without any major surprises, but works surprisingly well. Training scenes are relatively nuts; much better than the actual matches actually, which tend to go on forever. There is no sex, nudity or graphic violence, making this a family friendly affair. Sonny Chiba appears for about 7 minutes during the last third as a truck driver who comes to Jiro's rescue.
