The attractive Oberleutnant Paul Wendlandt is stationed in North Africa as a fighter pilot. While in Berlin to deliver a report he is given a day's leave, and on the stage of the cabaret theatre "Skala" sees the popular Danish singer Hanna Holberg. For Paul it is love at first sight. When Hanna visits friends after the end of the performance, he follows her, and speaks to her in the U-Bahn. After the party in her friends' flat, he accompanies her home and chance throws them further together when an air raid warning forces them to take cover in the air raid shelter. Hanna reciprocates Paul's feelings, but after a night spent together Paul has to return immediately to the front. There now follows a whole series of misunderstandings, and one missed opportunity after another. While Hanna waits in vain for some sign of life from Paul, he is flying on missions in North Africa. When he tries to visit her in her Berlin flat, she is giving a Christmas concert in Paris.

The daughter of a famous painter fleeing thieves who believe she knows where one of her father's original paintings is kept, flees and hides out at the residence of a pair of avowed women hating bachelors.
Resumen: La película cuenta la historia del ficticio doctor Barnay y relata su experiencia en la Primera Guerra Mundial. Trabaja como médico en un hospital militar y siempre se ha comprometido a lograr el fin de la guerra. Cuando su esposa muere en un ataque aéreo, pasa todo su tiempo trabajando en un invento contra la guerra para distraerse, y en el proceso descuida a su nueva esposa y su hijo. Película cargada de buenas intenciones (esa fábula sobre el hombre que quiere evitar las guerras tiene su enjundia, viniendo precisamente de un alemán), la dirigió Fritz Benhardt, del que no nos ha llegado más que esta muestra de su potencial como realizador. Una producción correcta y unos intérpretes ajustados, con toques melodramáticos. La escena final, con el inventor lanzando su discurso pacifista con la mirada puesta en el Altísimo (techo) es de lo más reconfortante. (Eddie Constanti)
