In Rio de Janeiro's bohemian district called Lapa, during the '40s, a stylish and popular scoundrel exploits a cabaret singer, and earns his living by means of petty swindles. But then he meets Ludmila, the cabaret owner's daughter, who wants to get rich smuggling goods in times of war.

From Friday night 'til Sunday morning, the doors of a new world open inside a nightclub in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. We watch the emotions and conflicts experienced by a series of characters, who find on the dance floor the ideal stage to represent the tragedy of their lives.
Film in three segments. In the first, father is suspicious about his son's masculinity. The second one shows a Don Juan-like guy who, at church for his own wedding, cannot remember who the bride might be. In the third, a rich husband tries to find the tattooed man he saw escaping through his wife's bedroom window.
A young women from a conservative family loses her virginity to her boyfriend who dumps her after. She starts a new relationship, but when her parents find out she has been "ruined" they try to arrange a marriage with the first boyfriend.
