Ajayan

Mutham is a 2002 Tamil film directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar. The film stars Arun Vijay, Sathyan, Nagendra Prasad and Ajayan in lead roles.

It is based on Perumthachan of the Parayi Petta Panthirukulam, a legend in the Kerala folklore. The problems caused by the generation gap are explored through the relationship between a skilled carpenter and his tradition-breaking son.

In the 1950s a village in Kerala is preparing itself to be included in the nation's electric grid. Things are looking up for villagers and everyone is optimistic about the progress that electrification will bring. However soon some trouble brews starting with petty quarrels on trees being felled for the power lines. A series of unfortunate events follow the electrification as the village comes into terms with rapid modernization.

An investigating officer, Inspector Achuthankutty, suspects the involvement of three women while trying to find the culprit behind the murder of a popular director and writer.

Lathika is happily engaged to her cousin who works abroad. While she waits for him to come back, Lathika gets raped by her brother's friend. She becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son.

A henpecked politician wants his name attached to a new bridge, even if that means destroying another, perfectly serviceable bridge.
