“A burned-out group of Brno intellectuals decides to go to Kolochava in Ukraine to perform ‘A Ballad for a Bandit’ there.” With these words, the author's collective presents their film, in which they use primarily documentary imagery to compose a lyrical grotesque about an epochal trip, which might be their goal. But it doesn't have to be. The main tool of expression here is the film’s edit, which places various shots, statements, and meanings next to each other, often in a sort of productive conflict. Just like in a poem, the “poetic function” of art and its ability to serve as the primary tool for expressing beauty is manifested in full force before our very eyes.

It's spring 1939. The bishop in Banska Bystrica finds out that in the village of Piargy, that was buried by an avalanche a few days ago, the Antichrist was born. The bishop calls on priest Balaz and asks him to investigate the statements of Johanka, the only survivor of the catastrophe. Balaz wants to know what exactly happened in Piargy.

Ali Ungar es un anciano, de 80 años, que descubre un libro escrito por un oficial de las SS durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El libro cuenta cómo el soldado acabó con la vida de los padres de Ungar en Eslovaquia. El hombre decide vengarse pero, cuando llega a la casa del soldado, este ha muerto. En su lugar se encuentra Georg, su hijo, un profesor retirado. Georg siempre ha querido huir del legado de su padre pero desea saber más de él. El ex profesor se ofrece a ser el intérprete de Ungar y los dos emprenden un viaje juntos en el que deberán dejar a un lado los prejuicios.

Desde la llegada en 1983 de María Drazdechova, una nueva profesora, a un colegio en un suburbio de Bratislava, la vida de padres y alumnos se altera enormemente. El comportamiento corrupto de la profesora y el intento de suicidio de uno de los estudiantes hacen que el director del colegio convoque a los padres de alumnos a una reunión urgente. En ella se les pide que firmen una petición de traslado para la Srta. Drazdechova. Sin embargo, las altas conexiones de la profesora con el Partido Comunista hacen que todos se sientan amenazados.

Un cuento visionario entre una especie superior y sus congéneres caídos en desgracia… Una nueva ley da preferencia a los perros de raza e impone un tributo considerable por las razas cruzadas. Rápidamente, los refugios caninos se llenan con perros abandonados. Lili, 13 años, lucha por proteger a su perro, Hagen, pero su padre lo suelta en la calle. Hagen y su ama se buscan por todos los medios, hasta que un día Lili baja los brazos. Por su parte, Hagen lucha por sobrevivir y rápidamente se da cuenta de que no todo el mundo es el mejor amigo del perro. Se une a un grupo de perros errantes, es capturado y enviado a la perrera. Entonces, los perros aprovechan para escapar y hacer una revolución contra los seres humanos. Su venganza será despiadada. La única que podría terminar con la guerra entre el hombre y el perro sería Lili.

This story actually happened in the region around the city of Sumperk in Jeseniky Mountains in May 1945. The disappearance of Agnes, the German wife of a Czech forester Jan Olsan is a dark mystery. She is the only one who knows who and for what reason is looking for her. It's the end of the war, times are bad and the Czechs are coming back from the inland to the frontier. The guards are forming and soldiers are coming. Fate brings together the outlaw Jan and his German brother-in-law Jurgen who has just returned from the eastern front line. Both men are looking for exactly the same woman and that is Agnes. But Agnes escaped; she is running away through the deep woods followed by the most powerful man of the county. Running away for what she had witnessed. The fatality of the relationship between Agnes and Jan can only be learned in the mountains on this thorny journey.

La muerte del padre de Adam, un chico gitano de 14 años, rodeada de sospechas ("ustedes lo mataron, racistas”, gritan los habitantes a la policía), da inicio a este retrato de la fatalidad que acompaña la existencia gitana: extrema pobreza, chozas improvisadas, constantes agresiones verbales y una agresividad latente. Sin embargo, también muestra con rectitud la energía de los gitanos, que se transmite a través de la música, la religión, el sentido de la familia y la presencia de numerosos niños que corren por las calles.
