The Polish artist Julia and her husband Piotr, a talented and successful composer, live in Kraków. When Julias's mother, Barbara falls ill with stomach cancer, the life of the family is falling apart. After the loss of the parents and break up of the marriage she is now alone in the world with an uncertain future where Adrian is of little help

Their world is divided into HERE (TU) and THERE (TAM). Here is the world of slums, landfills and vacant buildings, and THERE is the world of glass skyscrapers and riches. HERE is ruled by The President (Stanisław Tym), who is rich enough that he could live THERE, but he choses not to, as HERE he is the king. The story follows regular inhabitants of HERE, Newton (Maciej Stuhr) and his beloved Natalia (Joanna Kolaczkowska).

A group of students of the last year of the local motor technical school is slowly entering adult life. An atmosphere of emptiness and hopelessness reigns around them. Arek dreams of renting a flat and freeing himself from his alcoholic father. Together with Lalka, Panicz, Mucha and Renata - his closest friends, he often visits the Kosmos pub, owned by the local mafioso Marsel. One day Marsel offers Arek and Mucha a jump: they are to break into the apartment on the top floor of a skyscraper.
