Blu, Perla y sus pequeños disfrutan de una vida cómoda, alegre y perfecta en la ciudad de Río de Janeiro, Brasil. Pero Perla tiene muy claro que sus hijos deben aprender a vivir como los pájaros libres y salvajes que son, y para ello está convencida de que lo mejor es trasladarse al Amazonas. Una vez allí, Blu tendrá que enfrentarse a sus nuevos vecinos y a la idea terrible de perder a Perla y a sus hijos porque decidan vivir en la naturaleza salvaje para siempre.
