La joven muda Patience, de una comunidad aislada en la Inglaterra rural en 1555, lucha con su cuñado y líder controlador, David, quien se está deshaciendo gradualmente después del fracaso de su idílica comunidad. Se aprobó la Ley Egipcia, que estipula que todos los "gitanos" deben abandonar Inglaterra de inmediato y cualquiera que se encuentre ayudándolos podría ser ejecutado. A cambio de una tarifa, David acepta ayudar a una familia egipcia que debe permanecer un mes en su tierra hasta que llegue un barco para llevárselos. Pero cuando Patience tiene una aventura con uno de los forasteros, se ve envuelta en una violenta y feroz batalla psicológica con David.

To escape he needs to outwit his 'selves' whilst overcoming the realization that he is not the only Anderson.
