Dick Martin
En la estación londinense de Waterloo, un hombre muere sin causa aparente, y un desconocido intenta sin éxito apoderarse de la llave que el fallecido lleva en el cuello. Con él son ya dos los cadáveres en los que se ha encontrado una llave similar, lo que lleva al inspector Martin a sospechar de un nexo común. Sus investigaciones le llevan al despacho del abogado Haveloc, albacea de la familia Selford, quien le cuenta que el anciano Lord Selford, antes de morir, repartió 7 llaves entre amigos de confianza, con el encargo en que el día en que su hijo y heredero llegue a la mayoría de edad, deben reunirse y abrir con las 7 llaves una puerta tras la cual se encuentra la herencia. Más tarde el inspector escucha un extraño relato de labios de un hombre aterrorizado: se trata de un experto ladrón de cajas fuertes, que le informa que le han secuestrado y llevado a un lugar desconocido, con el propósito de que abriera una puerta con 7 cerraduras.

On the sidewalks of the London theater district the buskers (street performers) earn enough coins for a cheap room. Charles, who recites dramatic monologues, sees that a young pickpocket, Libby, also has a talent for dancing and adds her to his act. Harley, the theater patron who never knew Libby took his gold cigarette case, is impressed by Libby's dancing and invites her to bring Charles and the other buskers in his group to an after-the-play party. Libby comes alone. A theatrical career is launched.
