La película fue principalmente trabajo del fan de la banda Jeff Stein, quien a pesar de que no tenía experiencia previa en el cine, fue convencido y apoyado por la banda para desempeñarse como director. Stein había producido un libro en 1970 con fotografías de los conciertos de la banda cuando sólo tenía 17 años. En 1975 se acercó a Pete Townshend, el compositor principal y guitarrista de The Who, para proponerle una compilación y colección de clips de la banda para proveer de una referencia histórica a los fans. Townshend quién incialmente rechazó la idea, fué persuadido por el mánager del grupo para darle un sí al proyecto.

Detrás de esta muerte se esconde toda una red de prostitución de menores, de narcotráfico y de contrabando.

Such is the range encompassed by the so-called "permissive society", doubly significant because it usually involves young people who have either never known discipline or are rebelling against an overdose of it. They can't change society so they have no alternative but to drop out from it. In some of the most natural and remarkable film footage ever obtained, Tony Klinger and Michael Lytton have captured a unique cross-section of them going their chosen ways, and talking freely and frankly about doing so. Nothing was pre-arranged, nothing rehearsed: everything was filmed as it happened. Hippies, homosexuals, junkies, Hell's Angels, alcoholics, drop-outs - all fall into the category of nonconformist minorities.

Mark, a racist womaniser, suffers a fatal accident and finds himself in heaven confronted by St. Peter, who gives him a choice: “change your selfish, racially prejudiced ways or your life ends now!” Mark accepts and returns to the land of the living, accompanied by well-intentioned and sarcastic angel Evan, who is in fact his own conscience. When Mark’s company is taken over by Jasmine, he pursues her, trying to convince her he’s changed and that his love for her is genuine. Is Mark really a better person or is everything just an illusion being played out in Mark’s head as a result of his accident?
