Sumit Samaddar is an Indian actor and musical artist who primarily works in the Bengali film industry. The actor who made his debut on the silver screen with PATALGHAR (2003).

The film begins with a 'retreat', in which alumni from different batches of a residential school have travelled to their alma mater for a reunion. Anabil, one of the alumnus, presently working with UNICEF India as a 'child protection specialist', narrates the story of his childhood days spent in the residential school. In his childhood, when he was admitted to the residential school by his parents, Anabil happened to be a very shy student possessing below average abilities. For such a child, time table specific, demanding hostel life was not easy. A mischievous senior student Bishey and his gang added to Anabil's woes. In the pre-independent days, Viceroy Lord Curzon gifted a diamond-embedded golden pen to a local landlord as a token of gratitude for saving his life. When a newspaper feature about the long-lost pen's historical significance surfaces over a century later, it piques the curiosity of several people for all the right and wrong reasons. Cholai is a black comedy based on the 2011 hooch fatalities in Bengal, India. Country liquor, commonly known as 'Cholai' is a flourishing business in rural Bengal It is cheap and highly addictive. A sudden turn of events is triggered when a batch of Cholai gets toxic during the brewing process. Soon people who had consumed the Cholai start falling ill and the death toll rises to 172. Media turns the incident into a political drama. To pacify the outrage, the Government launches compensation for the family members of the victims. A gold-rush ensues following the announcement, everyone wants their share. Deaths due to other causes could be become 'entitled' for compensation if the right palms are greased with their share. The mourning soon transforms into greed and corruption.

The story is of Doctor Kingshuk Guha a gynaecologist who is out negotiating the purchase of a luxury apartment for himself and his wife Rammani and is unable to attend to an emergency because of a traffic jam. When his women patient Kavita dies after developing complications following a caesarean delivery, her more militant family members hold the doctor responsible and smash up the nursing home. Even Kingshuk's wife believes he is guilty of negligence. Rammani's struggle with her conscience is depicted through her conversations with the dead woman whom she has seen lying abandoned on an operating table. The doctor hires a defence lawyer but is persuaded by pragmatic but amoral medical colleagues to settle out of court. The story starts with the District magistrate Mr.Mukherjee who lives a blissfully happy existence with his wife, Mira and twin sons Indranath and Chandranath. They decide on a trip to visit Mr.Mukherjee’s native village. An accident happens in the way and they lose their son Chandranath. Chandra was rescued and nursed back to health by a sage who adopts him as his own child. Years later, Chandra comes to the city and is taken advantage of and ill-treated till he meets Bhola, a taxi driver with whom he strikes up an odd friendship .Bhola lets him stay at his own house too. Meanwhile Bhola gets a job as the District magistrate’s personal driver. Here he realises that his boss’s lost son and Chandra are the same person and so brings him back to his parents. The whole family re-unites once again.
