Drama inspirado en el relato de Liliana Pereira, una ex presa política de la última dictadura de Uruguay (1973-1985). La joven fue encarcelada en el año 1975 por sus ideas, fue torturada y perdió la custodia de su hijo. Años después, en 1982, Liliana decide volver a su país para enfrentarse a su pasado. Allí tendrá que elegir entre lo que le pide su corazón y lo que le dicta su conciencia, y se enfrentará al dilema de elegir entre la concordia con su hijo y la denuncia colectiva que prepara un grupo de antiguas compañeras de presidio.

Iremar trabaja en las Vaquejadas, el tradicional rodeo del noroeste de Brasil. Su casa es el camión que transporta los animales de uno a otro show y que comparte con sus compañeros: su compadre, Zé, Galega, una bailarina exótica y conductora de camiones, y su alegre hija Cacá. Pero el país está cambiando y la creciente industria textil de la región infunde nuevas ambiciones en Iremar, que empieza a soñar con el diseño de moda.

Para cumplirlo, emprende un viaje en solitario a un pueblo remoto en el que aparentemente reside el artista capaz de realizar el diseño. Personajes insólitos a ritmo lento le darán la bienvenida.

In 1971, Uruguayan journalist and writer Eduardo Galeano published his landmark work Open Veins of Latin America, in which he comprehensively described the centuries of economic exploitation of Latin America. Almost 40 years later, filmmaker Gonzalo Arijon reevaluates the situation. His search takes him from the soybean plantations of the Brazilian Amazon to the tin mines of Bolivia to the deep jungles of Ecuador. Arijon’s politically committed film allows the local populations to speak for themselves, interspersing this with archival footage of speeches by Hugo Chávez, Lula da Silva and Evo Morales. Galeano himself also speaks—sometimes in poetic language— about how the rise of socialist governments in the early 21st century is benefitting Latin America, and what more can be done.

The film explores the effects in the society that the last military dictatorship inherited. In Uruguay there are still a lot of desaparecidos - people who vanished during the dictatorship between 1973 and 1985 - and were never found again. María Emilia is one of them and still missing. She disappeared when she was 22-years-old, with her husband and her child of 18 months. María Esther - her mother - spent 16 years searching only to finally find her granddaughter living with a family of an Argentinean military officer in Buenos Aires. After learning the truth about her origin, the granddaughter chose to continue living with the parents who adopted her by force when she was a baby.

El viaje hacia el mar es una película uruguaya de 2003 basada en el cuento homónimo de Juan José Morosoli, dirigida por Guillermo Casanova y protagonizada por Hugo Arana, Diego Delgrossi, Julio César Castro, Julio Calcagno, Héctor Guido y César Troncoso. Fue nominada en los Premios Goya 2004 a mejor film extranjero de habla hispana y ganadora del Colón de Oro del 29º Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva. En el verano de 1963, en un bar de la ciudad de Minas, el sepulturero Quintana (Julio Calcagno), Rataplán (Diego Delgrossi), barrendero y Siete y Tres Diez (Julio César Castro), vendedor de loterías, esperan a Rodríguez (Hugo Arana) que los va a llevar en su camión a ver el mar por primera vez. Los acompañan El Vasco (Héctor Guido) y un Desconocido (César Troncoso) que se une a último momento. A lo largo del viaje los personajes irán revelando su forma de ver el mundo y vivir la vida.
