Under the twilight at dusk in the vast plain with dog barking a young man Yo-ching and his wife Chiu-yun as well as their daughter are walking toward a giant deserted house. A queer old lady lives upstairs there and arranges them to sleep. Chilly wind blows in the mid-night shaking the old windows. The first night passes under terrible fear. Yo-ching goes out to arrange the matters for his father's bones the next morning. The old lady is out as well. As it turns dark, Chiu-yun and her little daughter feel scared. In the old house, she is terribly scared by one after another and she leaves the old house and by mistake enters another old house and is scared again. Yo-ching finds her and takes her back to the old house. A young lady comes downstairs in the old house to Yo-ching. Who is the mysterious young lady? Is she a human or a ghost? By whom she was murdered?.........

After seeing his father murdered and his mother abducted by a caveman-like martial arts cult, a small boy is taken in by a wizened old kung fu master, who rigorously trains him until he is endowed with almost supernatural fighting skills. This training, however, takes much less time than it would in most martial arts films, in which the kid would attain mastery at about the same time he reaches adulthood. Instead what we get is a sword-wielding 5 year old waging a bloody war of revenge against an assortment of adult-sized demons and people in heartbreakingly threadbare monster costumes.

The title refers to Yueh Yang and Liu Chia Chang as two men, the former uncultured and uneducated but warm and genuine, and the other promising and dashing but irresponsible. Having to make a difficult choice after an affair with the latter is Lan Yi-li who has spurned the security of her husband for something more exciting but in the end more tragic.
One time soft-drink salesman Chang Chia-po, now a powerful warlord, courts the support and aid of the ammunition dealers Tu Mu-hsien, Robertson and Wilson. To impress them with his power and the strength of his army, Chang orders a parade. Much to his dismay, the parade ends in catastrophe giving the gun dealers a very bad impression...

Directed by some of most well known Chinese-language directors of the time, the portmanteau film Four Moods was an attempt to alleviate Li Han-hsiang’s financial troubles during the late 1960s. Arguably one of his best works, King Hu’s short Anger is an adaptation of the famous Peking opera San Cha Kou; set to opera instrumentation and stylishly shot, the film deftly captures the tense showdown between political schemers, avengers and vagabonds inside an inn. Li Han-hsiang’s Happiness, inspired by the Strange Tales of Liaozhai, tells a tale of reprieve for a kind-hearted ghost, while Pai Ching-Jui’s Joy and Lee Hsing’s Sadness both explore the fateful encounters between mortal men and ghostly women.
