Los vecinos del pueblo de Contagem, cerca de Belo Horizonte, sueñan con tener una vida mejor. Puede que los de mayor edad ya se han rendido. Las mujeres están dispuestas a trabajar de manera honrada, pero los hombres suelen ser vagos que tratan de llegar a lo que ellos llaman "El corazón del mundo" a través de acciones criminales. Este documental sigue la vida de sus vecinos y de sus quehaceres diarios.
