Durante los años 70, la economía de la región atrajo a muchos oportunistas a Uruguay. Las instituciones estaban en bancarrota; había un gobierno militar; los subversivos estaban tras las rejas y, para los sectores de baja reputación de las economías de Brasil y Argentina, el mercado financiero uruguayo parecía el lugar ideal para hacer desaparecer el dinero. Así es como Humberto Brause comienza una meteórica carrera en la compra y venta de divisas extranjeras, patrocinado por su propio suegro, un veterano en el negocio de la fuga de capitales. Ciego por su excesiva ambición, Humberto se lleva por delante a todo aquel que se cruce en su camino. Consigue hacerse cargo del negocio familiar y acepta una sospechosa tarea: lavar la cantidad de dinero más grande que ha visto en su vida.

The plot deals with the developments in an old decadent village after a stranger arrives at the old train station, an event in itself. This stranger is a Brazilian musician who carries and plays his "oboe". The music from the oboe, the musician's instrument, will change the lives of everyone involved, and that small village itself will forever be changed by the sound of the oboe.
