Graça is a single mother who works as a massage therapist and lives with her two children: Moreno, 8, and Papoula, 15. One day, in a visit to the doctor, Graça is diagnosed with a brain aneurism that may rupture at any moment. Desperate about who will take care of her kids in the event of her death, she decides to go after her brother, Luiz Carlos, whom she hasn't seen in over 15 years due to a quarrel. When they meet, however, Luiz Carlos has become Gloria, a beautiful and successful transvestite, who now owns a restaurant and brags about being independent. At first, Gloria is unwilling to reconnect with her family; but as she becomes more guilt-stricken, she accepts Graça's invitation to meet her nephews and eventually realizes that maybe, to be complete, she needs to become a mother.

Over a tense day in the emergency hospital, we follow the surgeon's work Evandro and staff in three cases that require risk surgery: a drug dealer, a military police officer and a rich family child, all injured during a shootout in a slum next to the hospital.

The film accompanies the investigation of the historian Sidney Aguilar after the discovery of bricks marked with Nazi swastikas in the interior of São Paulo. They then discover a horrifying fact that during the 1930s, fifty black and mullato boys were taken from an orphanage in Rio de Janeiro to the farm where the bricks were found. There they were identified by numbers and were submitted to slave labour by a family that was part of the political and economic elite of the country and who did not hide their Nazi sympathizing ideals.

Isolda (Irene Ravache), tía de Dolores (Laura Ramos), envía a su sobrina a La Habana 5000 dólares desde su casa en Río de Janeiro, para que pueda montar el restaurante que tanto desean ambas. Dolores no sabe que los dólares viajan camuflados en el tacón de unos zapatos de baile. Los zapatos llegan a La Habana, pero son canjeados una y otra vez por diversos artículos y distintas personas, sin que nadie sepa lo que esconden en su interior. Cuando Dolores se entera, intenta recuperarlos a toda costa, revolviendo toda La Habana, ayudada por su amigo José (Jorge Sanz) un buscavidas español que se hace pasar por cubano para sobrevivir y Mercedes (María Galiana) antigua ama de llaves, diabética y algo transtornada.
