1975: poet, intellectual, and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini is bludgeoned to death and run over with his own car in the outskirts of Rome. Charged with murder, 17-year-old hustler Pino Pelosi pleads self-defense -- after all, Pasolini was a well-known pederast. However, many inconsistencies start to undermine his version of events, pointing to him not having acted alone or even being assaulted in the first place. Was Pasolini also murdered for another reason?

The film shows the difficulties of an honest, imperiled judge and his bodyguard of four men, trying to clean up a Sicilian town. Corrupt local politicians, working hand-in-hand with the Mafia, will stop at nothing to prevent exposure of their rackets.

En un pequeño pueblo siciliano durante los años previos a la llegada de la televisión (justo al finalizar la Segunda Guerra Mundial) el joven Toto vivía fascinado por el cine. Toto trata de entablar amistad con Alfredo, el proyeccionista del cine local, una persona muy irritable pero con un gran corazón. Todos estos hechos se presentan en forma de nostálgicos recuerdos de Toto que ha crecido hasta convertirse en un cineasta de éxito, y que revive a su infancia cuando recibe la noticia de que Alfredo ha muerto.

La acción transcurre en Sicilia, donde una mujer y su hijo son abandonados por el padre. Ambos encontrarán amores: ella, uno nuevo en la persona de un joven médico recién llegado; él, el primer amor en una amiga de su madre. Pero también llegará la tragedia.
