Dos ex compañeros de colegio quiteños se encuentran por casualidad en Ciudad de Panamá en 1985. No se han visto desde su graduación y aunque entonces fueron cercanos, han tomado caminos opuestos: Esteban trabaja en la banca y está en Panamá por negocios, no siempre lícitos. José Luis se presenta como periodista pero en realidad es miembro de la guerrilla Alfaro Vive ¡Carajo!, viviendo en la clandestinidad mientras prepara una nueva acción en el Ecuador: el secuestro de un banquero. Dos personajes sostienen un relato que está profundamente aferrado al pasado del país.
