Una mirada acronológica y en profundidad a la vida de Heleno (1920-1959), mítico y controvertido futbolista brasileño de los cuarenta. Conocido como «Gilda» por su temperamento violento, Heleno fue el príncipe de la edad dorada de Río de Janeiro. Apuesto, encantador y refinado en los elegantes salones de baile, tenía un carácter explosivo y lleno de pasión en la cancha. Heleno estaba seguro de que era el futbolista brasileño más grande de todos los tiempos, pero la guerra, la sífilis y una turbulenta vida lo alejaron de ese destino de gloria, precipitando la tragedia.

Una mirada atrás a la edad dorada, a las "épocas felices". Paulo fija su primer recuerdo en los festejos en las calles brasileras por el fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial de la mano de sus padres. Desde ahí recorreremos los años cincuenta, y los personajes típicos de la sociedad brasilera de aquella época; la relación con su mejor amigo y con sus padres y abuelo. Una visita a un cabaret y el encuentro sorpresivo con su padre cambiará la historia de las relaciones de una manera fascinante.

Bufo Marinus is a frog poison causing catalepsy in humans, simulating death, enabling grand insurance fraud and other crimes. Ten years later, now as a successful writer, similar characters possibly using Bufo Marinus reappear and create an intricate plot full of surprises.

A young girl named Marcela lives with her dad, Jose, a lighthouse keeper, and old Daniel on an island. The only contact the girl has with the world outside her home is by a boat with four sailors that pays a visit to the island in order to take them supplies. Daniel, who not only protects her from her dad's strictness but also teaches her how to be literate, is her source of tenderness. Her dad thinks she should be away from the world - though she wishes she could spend a few days in town. Then one day, as she has her first period and becomes a woman, she starts feeling sexuality through the blowing wind, which she talks to.
