Akihiro, un cineasta japonés que vive en París, vuelve a Japón a entrevistar a supervivientes para un documental conmemorativo del 70 aniversario de la bomba atómica de Hiroshima. Profundamente conmovido por las entrevistas, decide tomarse un descanso, y deambulando por la ciudad, conoce a Michiko, una joven alegre y enigmática.
