Tras asistir al funeral de su madre, Jean Barlot emprende un viaje y se detiene a pasar la noche en una pensión. Durante el sueño causa destrozos en la habitación. A la mañana siguiente, averigua que un extraño marqués que se hospeda allí ha pagado los desperfectos y que, además, lo invita a pasar la noche en su castillo. Barlot acepta la invitación, pero sus fuertes convicciones morales y religiosas sufrirán un fuerte impacto al espíar al marqués y a sus amigos.

Dark satire about bare-knuckled capitalism in the immediate post-Cold War era. Set just as the Communist government is collapsing, the film focuses on the brutish Racz, the handyman in a Bratislava hotel. Knowing that his job is insured for life, Racz turns off the building's heat and demands food, money, and sex to have it restored. The film is narrated by a pimp named Urban who explains that people in the former Czechoslovakia were so used to being abused that they simply put up with Racz's corruption. By the end of the film, Racz's fortunes have changed considerably. Instead of being a lowly worker, he is now a ruthless and wealthy businessman, unafraid to kill or kidnap those who get in his way.

En tono de comedia ácida, el realizador retrata la confusión que sobrevino a la caída del bloque soviético y a la escisión de la antigua República Socialista de Checoslovaquia en dos Estados independientes (los checos por un lado y los eslovacos por el otro), en donde algunos personajes que medraban en la mediocridad se enriquecen súbitamente aprovechando el caos reinante. Con su filme, Jakubisko predijo el crecimiento del nacionalismo irracional en Europa Oriental, así como el desmantelamiento de la Federación Checoslovaca.

A story of a small-town boy growing up in love and despair and family troubles that make him take on a critical attitude towards his surroundings. Mato does not fulfill his father's wish for devoting his free time to playing soccer. Mato enjoys fishing with his friend Robo much more. He dreams of his schoolmate Terka and of an adventurous run-away from home.

A picture of generational confrontations between children and parents. A young and ambitious violin virtuoso, Peter, lives in long-lasting conflicts with his father. Only after his death Peter realizes how much he had been hurting his father. Still, not even the tragedy can make a change in his shallow life in stereotype.

A film about the dramatic lives ofthe people of the village of Ráztoka during WW I. Women are left without husbands, families fall apart, finding themselves on the verge of poverty. Eva, the main heroine, is going through difficulties after her husband was drafted to the army. Her defilement and her tragic death cause a rebellion by which the village inhabitants finally stand up against their unbearable situation.

Two female clerks using up their savings to enjoy a few days of carefree life, two plumbers looking for an erotic adventure, a building contractor determined to drink away all wages of his workers and a former major who became an alcoholic due to political persecution — these people meet in a ski resort bar somewhere in the High Tatras. During one night they gradually reveal their unfulfilled dreams, illusions and disappointments of ”average" people of those times.
