Oksana (played by Sofia Rotaru) is a young and beautiful Carpathian girl. On the "Donetsk-Verkhovyna" train she becomes acquainted with a young miner from Donetsk called Boris. The travellers fall in love, but are parted when they arrive at their destination. In the Carpathian mountains their paths diverge, but Boris (played by Vasyl Zinkevych, soloist of the instrumental band "Smerichka") discovers where she is staying. The couple meet again and rekindle their love. Their friends invite them to perform in a concert for vacationers at a mountain resort, where they sing about their feelings for each other.

A story about an agile Cossack named Aeneas. His free and peaceful life was disturbed by the goddess Juno, who did not like our hero and tried with all her might to torment him. Driven by her, Aeneas managed to cope with many difficulties, pass through the fires of hell and even cheat death itself. But the exciting adventures of the Cossack did not end there.

The film is addressed to children. It touches the theme of good and reciprocity between animals in the winter.

The action takes place during World War II and the German occupation of Ukraine, in a small village. During clashes on the road, the village boy Vasyl, one of the local partisans, killing a German officer. The occupants take hostages and vow to execut all village inhabitants will beed, including old people and children, if the perpetrator is not found and delivered to them. The problem of choice faces the fellow villagers and Vasyl himself. The film is striking it its black-and-white imagery unfolding not so much against, as together with, the emotionally intense music by Pederecki, Bakki, and Skoryk. Conscience is absolutely free of Soviet ideological clichés obligatory for the WWII genr, and was immediately banned by the Soviet censorship. It was first restored in 1989 by the Dovzhenko Studio and in 2011 by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture.
