Recién nacida, la abeja Maya es un poco torbellino y no sigue las reglas de la colmena. Una de estas reglas es no confiar en las avispas que viven más allá de la pradera. Cuando desaparece la preciada jalea real, las avispas son las principales sospechosas y las abejas creen que la traviesa Maya ha sido su cómplice. Ninguna de sus compañeras la apoyará excepto su amigo Willy, quien la acompañará en un viaje lleno de aventuras en el que juntos intentarán evitar una guerra entre las abejas y las avispas.
